About
After spending my first 18 years on Long Island, I got itchy feet and spent ten years traveling — San Francisco, Florida, Europe, several years on kibbutzim (communal farms) in Israel — before settling down in Boston, Massachusetts, where I met and married Guntram, who was born in Germany and brought up as a Catholic. We have one child with five children. We are blessed that they live nearby.
Once settled in Boston, I focused on the writing I'd been doing all my life and began to publish poetry in literary journals. I got my B.A. in English and then a Masters, , and went on to teach composition and creative writing at the University of Massachusetts for 10 years. During this time, I was immersed in Jewish study. In particular, I loved the sound of Torah, which led me to create a translation of Genesis to be chanted in English. I taught Hebrew school and tutored children for their bar and bat mitzvah; I wrote liturgy for healing services, women’s services, and High Holy Days. I was asked by people in my community to officiate at weddings, baby namings, and funerals. It was these experiences and years of study and inward journeying, that led me to the rabbinate. In 2012 I received smichah (ordination) through Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute.
Since then, my rabbinic work has expanded to include leading Shabbat and High Holy Day services, and facilitating workshops to help people think about the end of life by writing a spiritual legacy.
I love Judaism, and I welcome the opportunity to share this love with you wherever you are on your journey.
